10?/?/01
Yeah this is my first ported enclosure I ever built. This was a project that was designed to utilize the Cerwin Vega 10d4 10" subwoofers I had laying around. I had purchased the subs over a year ago and had never heard them in a proper ported enclosure.
The design idea behind this was to make a pair of boxes that would fit between the wall and the entertainment center in my bedroom, with its depth matching that of the entertainment center. The external dimensions ended up being 14" wide x 16" tall x 18" deep. The net internal volume after driver and port displacement loomed around 1.67 cubic feet. Due to my inexperience with the design type, I used a port tuned much too low.
Intended port tuning was supposed to be between 30 and 35hz, for optimum performance. I ended up using a 3" x 12.5" port, which actually bumped tuning down into the 25hz region. Please note this is a car audio sub, not a home sub.
Despite the lower tuning frequency, the box still had amazing musical performance. To avoid bottoming out at high volumes with moderate power levels, a sub-sonic filter of some sort should have been used. The efficiency for power provided was still much more than any other 10" sub I have EVER demoed.
The match to this box was made some time later, close to 6 months later. The second one came out much better in appearence, though I left the tuning frequency to match the other box. I still wish I had never sold them, my absolute Favorite subs EVER.
